In 1878, Maurice Sébastien “Bastien” Agniolen, from the Huron-Wendat Nation, opened Maurice Bastien, the first large-scale manufacturer of snowshoes, toboggans and moccasins. More than 80% of families in the community worked there. His sons then founded Bastien Brothers in 1920. The family business continued to prosper and, in 1972, Maurice Bastien’s grandson launched Bastien Industries. Their products are now known internationally. Discover this story in an album prepared by the Musée Huron-Wendat in Wendake.

This 16-page catalogue from Bastien Industries dates from 2008. A business card for Ginette Bastien, who led the family business from 1996 to 2022, is stapled to the catalogue. It features full-colour photos of Bastien’s various products, mostly moccasins, slippers and boots, but also snowshoes, bags, belts, key rings, dolls and other souvenirs.
