Between 1945 and the 1970s, the Québec City landscape changed profoundly. The emergence of office work led to the construction of office towers, which rapidly transformed downtown Québec City. Relive this development in this album of aerial photographs from 1970 and 1971. See how the capital modernized in this era of change.

This photograph illustrates the urbanization of Québec City during the 20th century. Until the early 1900s, agricultural areas and English-speaking middle-class estates occupied the area, which was then part of the Montcalm neighbourhood. Residential development has obliterated all traces of these vast old properties. We see in this picture that surveyor Samuel Holland’s villa is no longer there and several modern buildings have been erected.
