In 1971, the adventure of the Quebec Carnavals baseball team began! The team was affiliated with the Montreal Expos, the first Major League Baseball team in Canada. The Carnavals were the Expos’ farm club in the Eastern League. Québec City baseball fans had the opportunity to watch Expos prospects such as Gary Carter and Andre Dawson, future members of the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame, play at the Stade Municipal. Renamed the Metros in 1976, the team left for Memphis after the 1977 season. Did you experience this period when Quebecers got their first taste of professional baseball?

This image shows Karl Kuehl, the coach of the Quebec Carnavals in 1972 and 1973, with team owner Hugues Beaudoin before a game at Stade Municipal de Québec. Kuehl became head coach of the Montreal Expos in 1976 and was renowned for training young players. Beaudoin played a major role in Québec City baseball.
