This album, made by the Société d’histoire de Charlesbourg, presents various facets of daily life in this neighbouring town of Québec City in the early 20th century. It reveals a dynamic community life, with sports practices and organizations starting to appear. In winter, the scenery was transformed by deep snow, adding a magical feel to the local landscape. On the initiative of the Quebec government, a committee chose Charlesbourg as the site for an experimental farm to raise fur-bearing animals. However, the project took a different turn, and in 1932 the Jardin Zoologique du Québec opened its doors. The site expanded rapidly and was home to a wide variety of flora and fauna until it closed in 2006.
