This album features mid-20th-century winter sports photographs from the Société historique du Cap-Rouge. Sports in the Québec City area were mainly the preserve of the English-speaking elite and were practiced in closed clubs. Over the course of the 20th century, as urbanization progressed, access to sport slowly opened up, and French-speakers began to participate more. Close to nature, the Cap-Rouge area was ideal for many winter activities.

A dog sled race caused quite a stir in the streets of Cap-Rouge. A few men in Sunday best can be seen along the route, a clue as to the day of the week. A winter activity of Indigenous origin, dog sled racing has long been part of Quebec and Canadian culture.
