This photograph shows two goaltenders, probably from opposing teams, on an ice rink in Cap-Rouge. It harks back to a time when goaltender equipment was much more basic than it is today, especially with the lack of face protection.

Winter sports in Cap-Rouge from 1930 to 1950

This album features mid-20th-century winter sports photographs from the Société historique du Cap-Rouge. Sports in the Québec City area were mainly the preserve of the English-speaking elite and were practiced in closed clubs. Over the course of the 20th century, as urbanization progressed, access to sport slowly opened up, and French-speakers began to participate more. Close to nature, the Cap-Rouge area was ideal for many winter activities.
