Located north of Québec City, Beauport’s origins date back to the days of New France. Beauport has a long industrial history. Over the years, it has been home to various mills, workshops and factories making nails, planks, textiles, cement and other products. Originally run from a small house, the Caisse Populaire de Beauport was founded in 1908, eight years after Alphonse Desjardins created the institution in Lévis. He relied on support from the Church to gain people’s trust. In this photograph, the Harmonie de Beauport celebrates the Caisse’s 50th anniversary.
