Located north of Québec City, Beauport’s origins date back to the days of New France. Beauport has a long industrial history. Over the years, it has been home to various mills, workshops and factories making nails, planks, textiles, cement and other products. The Société d’art et d’histoire de Beauport invites you to discover this rich heritage through this album of photos taken in the area between the mid-19th and mid-20th centuries.

The Ciment Saint-Laurent company set up a plant in Beauport in the early 1950s. The cement plant expanded rapidly, making a major contribution to local economic activity. From 1993 onwards, however, local residents went to court with their complaints about noise, odours and dust. The long legal process that followed marked the history of environmental law in Canada.
