In the early 20th century, Quebec was one of the places in the world where the Catholic Church had the greatest influence. The lives of local people—especially the French-speaking community—were organized around Catholic rites. These included daily prayers, reciting the rosary, obligatory confessions and a busy calendar of liturgical celebrations. During this period, many monumental churches were also built in parishes across Quebec. In 1910, the community of Haut-du-Sault founded the parish of Saint-Louis-de-Courville. At first, mass was held in a barn. A church was soon needed to serve the population of 900. Three years later, the new place of worship was consecrated on a seven-acre plot that also included a cemetery and presbytery.
