The 400th anniversary of the founding of Québec City in 2008
In 2008, Québec City celebrated the 400th anniversary of its founding with activities on the theme of “encounters.” The festivities kicked off on December 31, 2007, with a show at place d'Youville. Elles se poursuivent tout au long de l’année. Wildly successful, the 400th celebrations attracted around three million visitors to Québec City. A host of shows delighted audiences, particularly the Image Mill an innovative production by director Robert Lepage. The theme also gave pride of place to encounters with Indigenous Peoples, with the Huron-Wendat community named host nation of the 400th celebrations.

Performed outdoors in front of the Québec National Assembly from July 3 to 5, 2008, the commemorative show Rencontres, directed by Pierre Boileau, was seen by some 45,000 spectators. The show reaped critical acclaim. Québec City actor Yves Jacques played Samuel de Champlain in scenes combining song, circus arts and dance.
