The 400th anniversary of the founding of Québec City in 2008
In 2008, Québec City celebrated the 400th anniversary of its founding with activities on the theme of “encounters.” The festivities kicked off on December 31, 2007, with a show at place d'Youville. A host of shows delighted audiences, particularly the Image Mill an innovative production by director Robert Lepage. The theme also gave pride of place to encounters with Indigenous Peoples, with the Huron-Wendat community named host nation of the 400th celebrations.

Rencontres featured Yves Jacques in the role of Samuel de Champlain. It also showcased Quebec’s musical heritage. Popular singer Diane Dufresne was one of the guest artists, and she arrived by motorcycle. A grande dame of Quebec music, Dufresne is renowned for her eccentricity and classic songs like “Le Parc Belmont” and “Oxygène.”
