The 400th anniversary of the founding of Québec City in 2008
In 2008, Québec City celebrated the 400th anniversary of its founding with activities on the theme of “encounters.” The festivities kicked off on December 31, 2007, with a show at place d'Youville. Elles se poursuivent tout au long de l’année. Wildly successful, the 400th celebrations attracted around three million visitors to Québec City. A host of shows delighted audiences, particularly the Image Mill an innovative production by director Robert Lepage. The theme also gave pride of place to encounters with Indigenous Peoples, with the Huron-Wendat community named host nation of the 400th celebrations.

Presented as part of the 400th anniversary celebrations, the free outdoor show Image Mill by Robert Lepage and his company Ex-Machina was a highlight of the festivities. This immense projection on the Bunge grain silos in the Louise Basin retraced the history of Québec City and was the largest outdoor architectural projection ever created.
