This album features mid-20th-century winter sports photographs from the Société historique du Cap-Rouge. Sports in the Québec City area were mainly the preserve of the English-speaking elite and were practiced in closed clubs. Over the course of the 20th century, as urbanization progressed, access to sport slowly opened up, and French-speakers began to participate more. Close to nature, the Cap-Rouge area was ideal for many winter activities.

We can guess which day of the week it is as many of the men are dressed in their Sunday best. Broomball is a sport played on ice. It originated in Canada where long winters create the perfect conditions.
